Summer-Specific Advice (June–August)
- Book sunrise. At 6:30 AM it’s 22°C and the light is soft. At 5 PM it’s 35°C and everyone’s shiny by the second location.
- Linen and silk over cotton jersey — they photograph beautifully and don’t show sweat.
- Bring a second top. A 30-second change behind a column = two outfits in one session.
- Shoes: the cobblestone rule. Flats, sandals, or clean sneakers for walking between spots; bring heels in a tote for the frames that need them. Trastevere’s sampietrini eat stilettos.
- Skip heavy makeup — it doesn’t survive July. Matte base + blotting paper wins.
The Flying Dress Option
Those dramatic billowing-dress photos on terraces? That’s a flying dress — I carry two (deep red and emerald) that you can wear over your outfit for a few cinematic frames (€85 rental during the session). Two minutes of wind and fabric, the most striking photos of the set.
What to Avoid
- Large logos and graphic tees — they date the photo and pull the eye
- Tiny tight patterns (thin stripes, houndstooth) — they moiré on camera
- Brand-new white sneakers everyone’s wearing — fine, but boring; a sandal photographs better
